Philadelphia Flower Show Opens March 2nd!
I, for one, am over winter. It’s been long, it’s been really cold & unfortunately it’s not over. I look forward to the Flower Show every year to give me inspiration for the coming season & to forget for a couple of hours just how cold I am. If you don’t know about the Flower Show it is the largest & oldest indoor garden show in the world and is held at the Convention Center every year. It is hosted, run & organized by the Philadelphia Horticultural Society (P.H.S.); a non profit started in 1827 that hosts programs, activities, workshops & publications for gardener’s of all levels. These are also the ladies that push for more green space all over the city, run City Harvest which helps provide fresh produce to families in need & Plant One Million a multi state tree planting not for profit. Needless to say, they stay very busy.
2013 Theme? London!
This year the central feature of the 2013 PHS Philadelphia Flower Show focuses on London. A display of English roses & a horticultural interpretation of royal palace gates will open to regal birch trees, leading to the show’s centerpiece: a sculptural, digitally enhanced rendition of Big Ben. Keep an eye on that clock, there’s more than meets the eye!
Don’t miss this special event! Purchase your tickets here. Remember proceeds support all the good deeds PHS is in support of & do a lot of good for this great city!
If you are inspired to start a garden, check back frequently as we are going to go over ways to make the most of small spaces in the city. If you have already started one you must check out Meadowbrook Farm in Abington! This is a great place to buy both indoor & outdoor plants & is run by PHS!
