Escape Philadelphia with a Day Trip to Terrain at Styer’s
Terrain at Styer’s is One of My All Time Favorite Places Outside of Philadelphia
The brilliant founders of Anthropologie took over the old Styer’s nursery in Glen Mills & turned it into a utopia for lovers of all things green, organic & fabulous in an oh so chic & not too shiny kind of way.
A cluster of greenhouses contain all sorts of plants for indoors & out making this a perfect spot for urban dwellers with limited outdoor space to get a number of interesting & unusual varieties of plants for home or balcony. They sell all the trappings for gardening like tools, gloves, clever markers & how to books.
Terrain not only carries some of the most beautiful plant varieties you’ve never seen before (seriously…their buyers are amaze) it’s a great place to get a gift or buy something to spoil you or your home. Gorgeous textiles, handmade jewelry, sumptuous bath products, kitchen gadgets, beautiful furniture, Rizzoli type coffee table books….I could go on & on…..& on. But I won’t. You should go there yourself!
You can also get a delicious meal in a greenhouse with locally sourced organic ingredients. It is like sitting in a magical little jungle-y garden cafe. This is my favorite pick for when I want to treat my mom to a special day. The food is delicious & they make these little Italian sodas with any sort of syrup…last time I went I chose elderflower. The bread comes out baked in it’s own little clay pot. I wish I had taken a photo but we couldn’t wait & dug right in. Classy, I know.
It’s a great place to get ideas for your own home. Whether you buy it here or D.I.Y. I always leave here inspired.
If you want to make the most of your day there are plenty of other places to go as well. You could go to Longwood Gardens, the Brandywine River Museum which is stocked to the gills with Wyeth’s or head into Kennett Square or West Chester which are both small towns nearby with plenty of shopping & things to do.
I hope you enjoy your trip! Make the most of summer!
