Unique Bakery Breathes New Life Into an Industrial Corridor in Philadelphia
Washington Ave. Is No Longer A Destination for Contractors with the Addition of Kermit’s Bake Shoppe
Kermit’s introduces the concept as “imagine if a pizzeria & a bakery had a baby.” Can you imagine it? Does it sound amazing? It is. They make pizza, pastries, desserts & breads by hand on site. There is no seating so it is meant for you to take it to go which is pretty easy on Washington Ave. We all know that there are really no parking rules over there. I wrote about it awhile ago & I’m kicking myself that it took me so long to get there.
I love the tattoo’ed facade, the pizza slice bike racks & their adorably branded bicycle. It is instantly recognizable as “different” than it’s surroundings but still fits right in somehow.
The cases are full of all kinds of goodies like cookies, pop tarts, hot pockets (a side of nostalgia always welcome) & croissants
The pizza case was full when I was there & the pies are thin, a little crispy on the bottom & tender at the top. Just the way I like it. No limp slices here.
The desserts are equally as beautiful. Check out the psychedelic whoopie pies & a personal fave…the black & white cookie.
Nestled right in between Graduate Hospital & Point Breeze, this is such a great addition to the neighborhood! We can’t wait to see what else starts popping up on Washington Ave. It seems it’s only a matter of time!
