Day Trip: Philadelphia to Lambertville

Perfect For County Lovers & Treasure Hunters

Sometimes you just gotta get out of the city.  Lucky for us there are quite a few towns to explore within an hour from the center of it all.  This past weekend I chose Lambertville & off we went.  Lambertville is a town in New Jersey just across the river from New Hope.  It is pretty much a straight shot up 95 North.  This is what we found.

Treasure Hunting Tip:  head out with a list of things you are looking for, don’t have something super specific in mind.

Golden Nugget Flea

1850 River Road
Lambertville NJ 08530

I will tell you that winter is not the best time to hit this flea market.  In the warmer months there are vendors set up both indoors & out.  I will also tell you this is for the extreme hunter or the collector.  The wares are not merchandised or edited.  You have to really pick through to find the good stuff.  It is there & vendors like to haggle.

Plenty of vintage kitchen wares.

An unlimited treasure trove of funky housewares.

If picking & haggling aren’t your thing head into town for a more edited shopping experience.

Panoply Books

46 N. Union Street
Lambertville NJ 08530

Cicero once said:  “A home without books is like a body without a soul.”  I wholeheartedly agree.  Even if you prefer reading on a tablet, no coffee table is complete without a book with lots of pictures to leaf through.  Panoply books has an amazing selection from art to mysticism to cooking;  I found a 1st edition printed in 1899 on Washington Square. Needless to say I am in love & could spend a whole afternoon here.

The front window was my first clue that I was in for a treat.

The books I found (at great prices I might add).  I am really excited about my first 1st edition (on top).  It is in impeccable shape for a book that is over 100 years old.

Kissmet

9 Church Street
Lambertville NJ 08530

This exotic window caught my eye immediately.  I was transported east with an impressive collection of handmade Turkish/Ottoman textiles, rugs, pottery, lighting, jewelry & boots.  The proprietor is infinitely hospitality & treated us to hot apple tea & Turkish treats while we browsed.   Hopefully one of these light fixtures will be mine.

Blue Raccoon Home Furnishings

6 Coryell Street
Lambertville NJ 08530

Think designer when you walk into Blue Raccoon.  The buyer here has a great eye & the merchandising is top notch.  This is a lifestyle store where you can order custom furniture, pick up a conversation piece or find a hostess gift that is bound to get some serious use.

Antick Furnishings

54 N. Union Street
Lambertville NJ 08530

Visiting the shop is by appointment or chance so keep that in mind if you’d like to stop by.  I was greeted by Claire (& Cleo her adorable pup).  Claire is one half of the husband/wife design duo that runs Antick.  She tends shop & curates vintage items while he makes custom furniture or reproductions for commission based projects.  His training is furniture & crafts in the 18th Century American style.  I am so happy they were open because I have been throwing around the idea of a custom built in bookshelf.  I was told I can send a sketch with my idea & he can put the idea into a scaled drawing.  He builds off site, assembles on site & does work in Philadelphia.

Rojo’s Roastery

243 N. Union Street
Lambertville NJ 08530

No treasure hunt is complete without a visit to a cafe in my opinion.  Rojo’s Roastery is a place Philadelphia coffee snobs will love & is totally worth the 9 block walk out of town.  All beans are roasted on site & the coffee is delicious.  They had some mean coffee equipment on display.

Bonus:  if you love looking at houses like I do Union Street is lined with adorable Victorian style homes.

My New Year Resolution of cutting down on sweets prevented me from hitting the Chocolate Box but I loved their store front.

I also missed the Best of Philly winner Zinc Home & Garden.  They are on my list for next time.

I will definitely head back to Lambertville once it’s warmer to get a proper taste of the Golden Nugget Flea & explore the shops I missed.  Do you have any favorite spots in Lambertville?  I would love to know about them!
