Building Up The Bourse – New Owners Plan for Renovation
The Bourse is about to get a major facelift! MRP Realty has purchased the historic building and is planning a $40 million dollar renovation. The 121 year old, 10 story building located at Independence Mall, was the first commodities exchange in the U.S. Originally known as The Philadelphia Bourse Building, The Bourse (meaning a place of exchange) was constructed in 1895.
Purchased by the Kaiserman Company, Inc in 1979, it was turned into a retail and office complex and is currently geared towards tourists that visit the surrounding historic destinations. While the souvenir shops and fast food services are convenient to Philadelphia visitors, the new owners plan to incorporate high end amenities for the renovation. Ultimately, the new Bourse will feature upscale options for dining and cocktails in addition to renovating the façade and upper levels. There are currently 24 retail and food service shops in addition to the 50 businesses above.
As of now, the Bourse is still open for business. Located at 111 S. Independence Mall East their hours of operation are Monday-Saturday 10am-6pm year round and Sundays from 11am-5pm from March to November.
