Wine and Dine Off the Beaten Path

Forget Tria, Barbuzzo, and Vetri – Check out a few of these new and established restaurants in Philadelphia!

Fishtown Social
1525 Frankford Avenue

fishtown social 2

Since its grand opening this past March, Fishtown Social has quickly become a popular establishment in the community. After buying the property located at the corner of Frankford Avenue and Oxford Street, Vanessa, along with husband and co-owner Ryan, knew it was too great of a location to not only invest in a business, but to give the neighborhood something it was missing: a wine bar. After living in the area for 10 years, owner Vanessa Wong decided that a wine bar would not only complement but more importantly add to Fishtown’s attractive small business and restaurant scene.

Wong fixed up the property creating an atmosphere that would attract both couples and singles to share a glass of wine and a small plate. The menu consists of cheeses, meats, and other snacks to go with your chosen wine.

This is a must-visit especially since today is National Wine Day…but wine can easily be celebrated at anytime.

824 S. 8th Street

Coeur, which also opened earlier this year, offers a unique French cuisine in a very Italian influenced South Philadelphia neighborhood. According to their website, Coeur has “curated a plucky and affordable wine list” including a unique draft selection featuring both local and international beers.  Another important public service announcement: any of their menu items that come with fries can be upgraded to poutine.

Audrey Claire
276 S. 20th Street

Audrey Claire's

Audrey Claire is a quaint Mediterranean BYOB located at 20th and Spruce. This cash-only intimate restaurant offers outdoor seating perfect for a warm afternoon or evening. Watch the chef prepare your dish or the neighborhood’s hustle and bustle while sipping on your choice of rosé, the most complementary selection of wine for middle eastern dishes.

Yellowtail Sushi
1218 Pine Street

Yellowtail Sushi

Affordable sushi isn’t exactly the most heard phrase or necessarily a good one. I can personally vouch for Yellowtail. It’s a small BYOB at 12th and Pine that offers delicious and attractively priced sushi along with quick service. Bring your own wine selection and enjoy an endless amount of sushi that won’t leave you hungry and broke!
