West Philly Porches Transform Into Festival Stages
There’s no better way to appreciate the residential architecture of West Philly than at West Philly Porchfest this Saturday, June 4th. This free, do-it-yourself music festival will feature bands performing on porches throughout the neighborhood. This is the perfect opportunity to enjoy a nice cold drink outside while listening to local artists jam out across West Philly. But this isn’t the first time it’s been done.
The first Porchfest was held in 2007 on porches across Ithaca, NY. Since then, more than 50 Porchfests have taken place all over the US and Canada. From San Francisco to Montreal, this unique community based concert has infected dozens of neighborhoods with West Philly continuing its tradition this weekend.
“I fell in love with Porchfest while living in Somerville [Mass.] I even formed a brand-new band just to play at the Somerville Porchfest in 2014″…”When I moved back to West Philly, it seemed obvious that it would be a great fit for the neighborhood.” – Ross Hoffman, Porchfest organizer (Quote taken from PhillyTrib.com)
Celebrate with your fellow neighbors by coming out to welcome the debut of West Philly Porchfest. All are encouraged to participate by either playing music, and/or hosting musicians, or just roaming the streets to observe its glory. Every style and level of experience is welcomed. The music will start at 12pm and end at 6pm. See below for a general timeline!
