East Falls is the neighborhood right next to Manayunk/Roxborough off of Kelly Drive.  It is a cute little neighborhood with Ridge Avenue as it’s commercial district.  There are small brick row homes right off of Ridge Avenue & as you head up the hill there are gorgeous old stone mansions & German style houses with the most fabulous leaded windows.  Philadelphia University is located in the neighborhood & many of the students live there as well as some politicians.  The farther you head up the hill the more “green” it gets & has a bit of a suburban feel with the larger plots & front lawns.  East Falls is popular because of close proximity to Center City as well as easy access to most major highways.

Restauarants, Bars & Nightlife

Two personal favorites are Il Fiorino located in a residential section atop the hill & the Falls Taproom.  Some other restaurants are In Riva right along Kelly Drive, Johnny Manana’s, Epicure Cafe, Trolley Car Cafe & Frank’s Pizza.

Grocery Shopping

Easy access to Manayunk means the Acme, Shop Rite & Super Fresh are only about 10 minutes away.  There are some small grocers dotted throughout the neighborhood including East Falls Grocery on Conrad.

Farmer’s Market

Head to Roxborough on Friday’s from 2-6 for the Gorgas Park market, Manayunk on Saturdays for the Pretzel Park market or Chestnut Hill on Saturdays for their market.

Shopping

There is not too much shopping to be done on Ridge Avenue.  Sherman Mill’s located on Scott’s Lane has a yoga studio, a cross fit gym, Mellow Massage & a salon.  Up on Wissahickon Ave. is a hidden gem called Material Culture (secret’s out) that has gorgeous furniture for great prices.  You could also head into Manayunk or Chestnut Hill & make a day of it.

Green Space

Sherman Mills has a dog park.  This neighborhood also rides Fairmount Park so you are never too far from green space here!

Parking & Public Transportation

Parking can be trickier close to Ridge Ave. due to the hills & tighter streets.  It loosens up a bit as you climb the hill.  Septa runs bus routes & the R6 line has a stop here as well.  Check out Septa’s website for more information.
