About

Point Breeze is a neighborhood lying just South of Graduate Hospital in South Philadelphia.  This neighborhood has become very popular in recent years due to proximity to Center City, affordable home prices & lots of new construction.  The housing stock is varied with a mix of new construction, cute brick front 2 stories, some brownstones & multi family dwellings.  There is easy access to Drexel & Penn’s campuses from the Grays Ferry Bridge as well as 76 & 95.  As more & more development occurs there are an increasing number of businesses catering to the residents of the neighborhood.

Bars, Restaurants & Nightlife

There seem to be new restaurants, bars & take out joints cropping up all over.  One of our favorites is American Sardine Bar where the food is delicious & there are tons of micro brews, many local, available on tap & in bottles.  I heard they got the go ahead for outdoor seating this spring.  Lovers of alfresco dining rejoice!  OCF Cafe also has an outpost in the neighborhood where you can grab coffee & a pastry.  Breezy’s Cafe is another spot that opened recently that is vegetarian friendly & serves lunch & dinner.  This summer a spot on Washington Ave. riding the Point Breeze/Graduate Hospital border is opening that will have take-out/delivery pizza & fresh baked breads & pastries.

Grocery Shopping

Bella Vista has garage parking at it’s Super Fresh & Whole Foods locations.  The Italian Market is close by.  Ippolitio’s at 13th & Dickinson is a great spot for seafood & it’s accompaniments.  There is also a Big 8 at 16th & Washington & a Sav a Lot at 13th & Washington.

Farmer’s Market

A market sets up every Tuesday from 2-6 in season at 22nd & Tasker.  It is run by the Food Trust.

Shopping

There is not too much shopping in the Breeze yet.  However, go right into E. Passyunk, Rittenhouse, Washington Square or down to South Street.  You are close to everything in this neighborhood!

Green Space

Chew Playground is the largest & is located at 18th & Ellsworth.  There is an adorable park at 23rd & Wharton called Wharton Square.  There is also Vare Playground at 27th & Morris.

Parking & Public Transportation

This is South Philly so get ready to parallel on some small streets!  There are also plenty of buses that service the area & the Broad Street line can take you North or South.  Check the Septa schedule for more info.
